Planned Parenthood refuses Donald Trump's offer of funding if it cuts abortion services

Trump says Planned Parenthood can keep funding if it cuts abortions

Vice President Mike Pence also strongly opposes abortion, citing his Roman Catholic beliefs, and the newly confirmed health secretary, Tom Price, has supported cutting off taxpayer money to Planned Parenthood.

In a statement issued on Monday, Trump reiterated his pro-life stance and said that he was willing to increase federal funding for women's health care services that are not related to abortion.

Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards immediately tweeted out her response to Trump's latest pronouncement, vowing not to "back down in the face of threats or intimidation".

"Millions and millions of women-cervical cancer, breast cancer-are helped by Planned Parenthood", he said during a televised debate, according to the report. "I would defund it because I'm pro-life, but millions of women are helped by Planned Parenthood".

"Providing critical health care services for millions of American women is non-negotiable", she added.

Planned Parenthood's abortion procedures cover only 3 percent of their annual services. "Planned Parenthood said yesterday that no federal funds are used for abortion, so I'm not sure why this bill is needed".

It is appalling the GOP wants to defund Planned Parenthood, an important women's health care clinic that provides affordable reproductive care to an estimated one out of every five women in the U.S. Without this organization, millions of women of all ages would go without access to birth control, STD tests, cancer screenings and reproductive health education. They said Planned Parenthood performs more than 320,000 abortions annually, although all clinics have been barred from using federal Medicaid money for that objective since 1976. No federal funds that go to Planned Parenthood pay for abortions, under federal law.

"We're proud to be there for the one in five women who have been to our health centers", Richards said, noting that, in part due to Planned Parenthood's work, unintended pregnancies in the USA are at a 30-year low and, thanks to Obamacare, "55 million women have access to no copay birth control". Abortions are a tiny per centage of the medical services that they provide. "And it is not their choice how we live our lives and our access to health care".

While the Planned Parenthood Federation of America is technically distinct from its political arm, and technically nonpartisan, there's no getting around the fact that the group's leader and its political arm are nakedly partisan.

Planned Parenthood does not perform mammograms; the organization makes referrals for them.

"We can't always be there in person for events like the march in Washington", Murray said.

Rep. Cathy Abercrombie, a Democrat from Meriden who is House chair of the appropriations subcommittee on human services, said she believed there would be support among legislators to include the funding for Planned Parenthood in the $20 billion state budget.
