'Beauty & the Beast' Breaks Box Office Records With $170 Million

"'Beauty and the Beast' is the latest example of Disney's perfectly executed strategy of going to their animation vaults, dusting off a classic and reinventing it as a modern live-action movie", said Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst at comScore. There is one person in particular though that is more captivated by one of Disney's other icons, that being the lovely Ariel from The Little Mermaid.

The film, directed by Oscar victor Bill Condon and based on the 1991 animated film, cost 160 million US dollars to make. In an interview with Vulture, Condon was asked for his thoughts on Lohan's comments. saying "I know!"

"It was very sweet of her (to mention me)".

Jordan Peele's low-budget Get Out, made for just $4.5 million, continued to be a box office surprise. "I feel like I was so lucky in getting this crown jewel [with Beauty and the Beast], but I'll go see her in Little Mermaid, absolutely".

Last February, Lohan wrote on her Instagram account that she wanted to play Ariel in "The Little Mermaid", a live-action movie if Condon directed it.

There's one scene where Beast and Belle are transported through a magical book to Belle's childhood home in Paris and whilst it was great in providing us with a nice little backstory about Belle it seemed a little out of place and a bit of a filler to stretch the film out. I would love that.

Internationally, "Beauty and Beast" placed No.1 nearly everywhere. Despite her fears, she befriends the castle's enchanted staff and learns to look beyond the Beast's disgusting exterior and realize the kind heart and soul of the true Prince within.

The romantic tale of Belle freeing the Beast from a curse, starring Harry Potter's Emma Watson and Downton Abbey's Dan Stevens, also grabbed $180 million overseas for a crushing global haul of $350 million.

Beauty and the Beast is in theaters now.
