But Ryan Murphy and his co-producers are apparently eager to get started the third, far more fashionable (sorry FEMA officials, but it's true) installment in the true-crime anthology series, which will focus on the murder of world-famous fashion designer Gianni Versace in 1997. She is the sister of famed designer Gianni Versace, who is being played on the project by Edgar Ramirez of The Girl on the Train.

Based on the book Vulgar Favors by Maureen Orth, Versace: American Crime Story starts production next month.

Cruz takes the role that was briefly rumored to be going to American Horror Story grad Lady Gaga.

American Crime Story won't be back until 2018, however.

This marks the USA television debut for Cruz, who won an Oscar in 2009 for Vicky Cristina Barcelona.

The limited series show, created by Ryan Murphy, centers each season around a famous true crime - the first season was the award-winning "The People v. O. J. Simpson"; the second season, now in development, focuses on the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. So I just don't think with her schedule, I knew that it would never had worked. "But I would love to work with her on something in the future".
