Former South Carolina star Jackie Bradley Jr. has been place on the 10-day disabled list, the Boston Red Sox announced Monday afternoon. He was sent back to Boston for further evaluation and placed on the disabled list following the game on Monday. "Everything points in that direction right now".
The injury first occurred Saturday when he lost his footing rounding the bases, causing him to miss Sunday's game.
Bradley had struck a similarly upbeat tone Saturday after twisting his knee awkwardly and falling to the dirt. With Bradley out, the Sox will easily plug fourth outfielder Chris Young into left and move Andrew Benintendi to center. He walked off the field under his own power and said he "absolutely" would be able to play Sunday, joking that his legs can hold up under anything because "I'm built like Secretariat". Still, an all-around talent like Bradley Jr.is tough to replace. Hanley Ramirez has played just two games because of it, and Mookie Betts returned to the lineup Sunday after the flu kept him out for nearly a week.
The Red Sox return to Fenway Park tonight and Drew Pomeranz returns to the mound.
