Mourning was about 15 minutes late, so Miami-Dade County's public housing director started without him. Of course, given this administration's knack for spinning a event into a justification to do the opposite of the right thing, the entire complex will probably be condemned for making our dear leader's underling look bad, but, um...

In another tweet, Carson also thanked the Miami police and fire departments for the timely rescue.

Meanwhile, Miami Heat legend Alonzo Mourning waited for Carson in the lobby of the building.

Carson, a retired neurosurgeon who does not have experience in housing policy, stopped at the complex as part of a nationwide "listening tour" of affordable housing developments for low-income residents.

Carson was in Miami Wednesday to meet with former National Basketball Association star Alonzo Mourning, whose non-profit group helped develop the complex which provides housing to low-income families.

Poor families and the elderly have to be fortunate enough to snag a voucher to get in a public housing program. When Mourning arrived, Carson stepped into the elevator to head back downstairs for their meeting.

But Carson took the situation in good spirits.

"I'm sure you guys know where to find me", Mourning told Carson by way of apology before the secretary left for his second stop of the day at Collins Park Apartments in Allapattah.

"Do we have the key?" he asked.
