First Look: "Thor: Ragnarok"

Not only did Hela (played by Cate Blanchett) introduce herself to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, she did so by making a huge statement, if you can call destroying Thor's hammer a statement. She proclaims Asgard as dead as fire and ash were seen over Thor's home world. If so, the MCU's version of Hela could also be depicted as Loki's daughter.

The trailer has been greeted with much enthusiasm online, see a look at some of the reactions below.

Loki will probably be playing another important role in Thor Ragnarok.

Word of advice to fans though - while the "Batman reacts to Thor: Ragnarok" video may seem to throw shade at DC, remember that it ought not to be taken too seriously.

After the successes of Guardians of the Galaxy, Ant-Man and Deadpool, Marvel knows that its comedies fair just as well, if not better, than their darker flicks.

There are, of couse, multiple responses to the fact that the first trailer for Marvel's Thor: Ragnarok shattered records in terms of viewership in its first 24 hours. And you know you'll be there. The trailer is amusing to a degree that only Guardians had managed before in terms of Marvel movies, and in a way that seems at once sillier and more self-aware.

Talking to Entertainment Weekly last month, director Taika Waititi teased fans that the new Marvel movie will watch Hemsworth's amusing side in the foreplay. The latter has in any case much in common with Lady Death, depicted in comics as a very white woman dressed in a black dress and whose sole goal is to kill and kill again and again. Supported by Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Thor lucks out when he finds one of his opponents are none other than Bruce Banner/The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo). Will they fight it out? will Thor, the demigod, save his people from evil?

The story Cate Blanchett turns supervillain in the first look at Thor: Ragnarok first appeared on The Sydney Morning Herald. The trailer also first reveals his bout against his "friend from work", no other than the Incredible Hulk.

When Marvel released its trailer for "Thor: Ragnarok", social media went wild.

"Thor: Ragnarok" opens in the US on November 3.
