Sir Roger Moore, James Bond star, dies at 89

Moore stared in several Bond films including Live and Let Die, The Spy Who Loved Me and The Man with the Golden Gun.

Legendary James Bond actor Roger Moore has passed away at the age of 89.

"Thank you Pops for being you, and being so very special to so many people", his family said in a letter posted on his Twitter account.

Moore's family announced his death Tuesday morning.

The twitter post reads, "With the heaviest of hearts, we must share the bad news that our father, Sir Roger Moore, passed away today".

According to IMDB, Moore started his career in television series and got his first global breakthrough in The Saint series, which made him a superstar.

Moore's final go-around as Bond came in 1985 with A View to a Kill.

Sir Roger was famous for his iconic roles in The Saint and the James Bond movies, the latter which made him one of the most successful actors of his generation.

He is survived by his wife Kristina Tholstrup and three children, who broke the news on social media.

Moore was also known for his humanitarian work, serving as an ambassador for UNICEF.
