Xiaomi will launch its next generation Redmi lineup of smartphones next month which includes the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5, Xiaomi Redmi 5, Xiaomi Redmi 5X, Xiaomi Redmi 5A. The poster also revealed key specifications of the smartphone. Dubbed 5X, the device - the leak reveals - is powered by Snapdragon 625 SoC and sports a 5.5-inch display. The new sub-brand, for now, is said to be 'Lanmi, ' under which Xiaomi will initially announce two phones, as per numerous reports. This move, which is unexpected from a "online only" brand, hits at a possibility of a sub brand launch, which could enable to company to deploy more products at various price tiers. There is also a possibility that the device may draw its power from 2.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 octa-core processor. Consequently, this leak should be taken with a pinch of salt as the handset's specs could change when the phone is officially announced. In terms of memory, the Redmi 5 is supposed to come in four variants based on their RAM and internal storage capacity and configuration: 3GB RAM with 16GB native storage, 3GB of RAM with 32GB native storage, 4GB RAM with 32GB native storage and 4GB RAM with 64GB native storage. It is not mentioned if the storage space can be further expanded or not.
The image clearly shows the presence of dual camera setup at the back. The Xiaomi 5X will run the Android 7.1.1 Nougat layered with MIUI 9 on top, according to the report. On the front, it will sport a 5-megapixel front-facing shooter for capturing selfies and making video calls. Earlier, it was expected that the new smartphone would come with the Snapdragon 660. The speculated launch is dated as July 26 but there is no official confirmation from company's side till now. Another phone could feature the same processor setup but with a lower display resolution.
