Liverpool look set to miss out on top transfer target

Keita is believed to have a release clause of £48m, which will come into place next summer, though Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is keen to have the 22-year-old in his squad ahead of a return to the Champions League.

German club RB Leipzig are determined not to sell their star midfielder Naby Keita, and are set to reject any and every bid for the midfield this summer.

After an impressive campaign in the Bundesliga past year, during which he helped Leipzig qualify for the Champions League, Klopp has seemingly focused on Keita being his pivotal signing of the summer.

Naby Keita was reportedly involved in a furious training ground bust-up yesterday (July 24) as reports in Germany claim Keita committed a "brutal" foul on Diego Demme that left his team-mate requiring extensive treatment.

"That's a training camp", he said, according to Sport1.

Demme was pictured prone on the turf receiving medical attention for some time while Keita was surrounded by other Leipzig players before going over to talk with his stricken colleague.

Leipzig issued a statement on Twitter which read: "Let off for Diego #Demme".

The player has attracted a lot of interest, especially from Liverpool, but despite some huge bids from the English club, the Bundesliga side has ruled out a potential sale. He suffered a bruised knee from a tackle in training, but his meniscus & ligaments are fine. Today, Liverpool have tabled an improved offer for Naby Keita... But now, with the Keita pursuit meeting a dead end, the Reds could be forced to keep hold of Can at any cost.

Leipzig defender Willi Orban discussed the situation afterwards.
