Coutinho will probably fake injury to leave Liverpool - Jenas

The rumours doing the round though, has it that the Brazilian has issued an official transfer request to push through a move to Barcelona.

If reports are to be believed, Liverpool midfielder Philippe Coutinho submitted a transfer request on Friday, hours after the Premier League club released a statement saying he is not for sale.

"I had to sell a lot of players in my managerial career", Klopp said.

"I said he's not that type of player - but I don't know what that means when you say that". They have different types of games.

"I was surprised by it". It's like I said: the club is bigger than anybody.

The Mirror have reported that the 25-year-old is interesting the Catalan side with Liverpool seemingly determined to keep Philippe Coutinho.

But Liverpool's strong stance will prevent it from being Coutinho, which will come as a relief to Klopp. That is how I understand.

Coutinho's actions are a surprise, because when players officially ask to leave, they usually prefer to do it through their representatives.

Through the 2016-17 season that saw the Reds finally break back into the Champions League, Coutinho started 28 times.

Plenty of speculation around him in the off-season and if he kicks on it could well be his past year at Liverpool.

He added: "It was a tough decision for [Neymar] and his main objective - beside the financial aspect, of course - is to become the best player in the world, leaving his status as Lionel Messi's shadow".

Barca remain hopeful of landing both Coutinho and Borussia Dortmund's Ousmane Dembele.

LIVERPOOL fans have been forced to watch on in horror as the continuing transfer saga surrounding Philippe Coutinho has raged on.

Later on yesterday, a close family member of Coutinho's told Sky Sports News: "Philippe has tried very hard to find an amicable solution to this situation but to no avail". It's the worst-case scenario for managers, coaches and the board. Quite often when Barcelona and Real Madrid come knocking there's an inevitability about it and they end up going.
