Olivier Giroud completed an exhilarating comeback as Arsenal beat Leicester 4-3 on Friday to ensure Arsene Wenger's side opened the English Premier League with a victory for only the second time in eight seasons.

Arsenal is not just pursuing a first league title since 2004 but also a return to the top four - and Champions League qualification - after finishing fifth in May.

Substitute Aaron Ramsey slammed home and 83rd minute equaliser before Olivier Giroud met Granit Xhaka's corner to win the season opener.

A predictable Arsenal implosion followed, with Shinji Okazaki and Jamie Vardy putting Leicester in front.

Should Giroud be starting more games for Arsenal?

"He did very well on the left when we moved him".

"If you look at the third goal, I'm a bit disappointed with the handball leading up to it but that aside, once you get the corner, you have to defend it better". For us we thought about the issue of who we wanted to take us forward.

Wenger was also pleased with new French signing Alexandre Lacazette, who scored after 94 seconds to equal the record for the fastest opening goal of a Premier League season.

One new recruit, defender Harry Maguire, felt Leicester gave the hosts a run for their money and - despite heading back to the east midlands with nothing to show for it - believes the display will hold them in good stead.

Giroud then sent the previously despondent Arsenal fans wild when he headed the victor from a corner, Leicester keeper Kasper Schmeichel only managing to turn the ball onto the underside of the bar before it bounced over the line.

Despite a Danny Wellbeck leveller on the stroke of halftime, the Emirates Stadium crowd was growing increasingly anxious and, when Vardy scored his second with 40 minutes to play, they must have feared the worst.

But the home side's pressure in the final half hour turned the game back their way and Ramsey equalised with a shot from close range with seven minutes remaining.
