The Solar Eclipse is suddenly an Android O countdown

Starting with Vimeo, the app that has more than 50 million creators and 240 million viewers worldwide, has implemented Android Instant Apps. However, you can turn different elements of notifications on or off. There is no information on what the "O" stands for, but Google had posted details about the new features of its all-new operating system.

In the latest podcast, the Android team also confirmed that they are indeed working with "some companies" to update their flagships to Android O, which could result in faster updates for them. Apps need to explicitly add support for it, though. Users can also long press on the apps for shortcuts.

For those unaware, Project Treble is Google's initiative to make Android easier and affordable for the OEMs. When the time comes for an update, a new Android framework is developed to plug into the existing, forward-compatible Vendor Interface. Unlike current updates, OEMs won't need to update drivers for the hardware in each OTA. The site does seem to be mostly about solar eclipse-tracking, but Google is also suggesting that the countdown represents when Android O will be officially revealed. This version of Android was code-named Android O - a placeholder for whatever (sweet) name they have picked out. A promo video, now deleted, had a filename containing "GoogleOreo_teaser". Android Instant Apps bring the native experience of an app to the user without them installing it. Google says that the Instant Apps are available starting today across every country where Google Play operates.

Google on Thursday said that its Android Instant Apps can now be accessed on 50 crore devices globally.
