Texans hold off Patriots in preseason National Football League play

Prior to Saturday's game against the New England Patriots, fans pondered the exact question.

Garoppolo and Brissett will surely get no shortage of snaps in the final two games of preseason when the Patriots will likely lean on the two quarterbacks. In his limited time on the field, he helped guide his team to a touchdown score.

Texans rookie Deshaun Watson has plenty to learn about playing quarterback in the National Football League, but he's picked up something from George Costanza already.

After Brady went to the bench, Jimmy Garoppolo replaced Brady and played against a lot of reserves.

Houston Texans rookie quarterback Deshaun Watson had rave reviews over his opening week performance against the Carolina Panthers.

Houston's third preseason game is next Saturday at 7 p.m. on the road against the Saints and wrap up the preseason with a Thursday night game against the Cowboys on August 31. Here are three takeaways from the Texans victory over New England.

Brady completed 6 of 9 passes while hitting Rex Burkhead across the middle for a 22-yard touchdown pass.

His only tackle on a short pass forced the second straight three-and-out to start the game for the Colts. Brady was also almost intercepted on the opening play of his second series because he undershot a sideline bid to Hogan, but safety Andre Hal couldn't get two feet inbounds to secure the pick. Burkhead, who was buried on the Bengals' depth chart for the past four years, added seven carries for 20 yards. On Houston's first drive, he failed to leap for a lofted pass over his head and allowed a 37-yard completion to Bruce Ellington on the right sideline at the Patriots' 12. He appeared to be in significant pain, hunched over after taking a blow to his ribs on a 63-yard catch-and-run reception by running back D'Onta Foreman. Granted, it's preseason and these came without the likes of Dont'a Hightower and other defensive stars on the field, but that isn't going to let Matt Patricia sleep any easier this week.

The Patriots fell to the Texans in Houston, 27-23, to fall to 0-2 on the preseason. Next up for the New England Patriots is a visit to Detroit to play the Lions on Friday at 7 p.m.
