Jack Wilshere's Arsenal return took a step in the wrong direction on Monday night as the England global was sent-off for his part in a mass brawl during an Arsenal Under-23s 4-3 victory against Manchester City.
The latest stage of Jack Wilshere's comeback ended in ignominy when he was sent off for pushing an opponent to the ground in reaction to a late challenge.
The England worldwide reacted angrily to a late challenge from City's Matthew Smith, pushing the player to the floor.
Wilshere, who is an odds-on shot to stay at Arsenal during this transfer window, has yet to play for the Gunners in the new Premier League season, having spent the last campaign on loan at Bournemouth.
Although Wilshere won't be suspended for any senior matches as a result, it does cast some doubt on whether he is ready to step back into Arsene Wenger's first team in the coming weeks. An outstanding first-half from the 18-year-old England youth global produced two goals as Arsenal took command.
The 25-year-old midfielder came up through the Gunners academy, but injury problems and a lack of form saw him drop off the radar. Nketiah deserves a chance as well and three minute's after his involvement in the opener, he doubled Arsenal's lead.
Wilshere was swiftly sent off, and Arsenal clung on to win the fixture 4-3 at The Emirates.
Speaking earlier this month, Arsène Wenger made it clear Wilshere, who is in the final season of his deal, remains a part of the first-team picture.
