Chinese FM calls for calm on Korean Peninsula situation

Wang told Venezuelan Foreign Affairs Minister Jorge Arreaza on Tuesday on the sidelines of a United Nations meeting that the two countries have an all-round strategic partnership, Chinese state news agency Xinhua said on Wednesday.

"The current deepening vicious cycle must be broken".

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov and officials from multiple countries around the world are rejecting President Donald Trump's promise Wednesday to "totally destroy" North Korea.

Russian Federation supports China's proposal for a "dual track" or "suspension-for-suspension" approach to solving tensions.

Russia's Foreign Ministry said Lavrov and Wang had discussed regional issues, with a focus on North Korea and Syria. Trump's fiery United Nations speech came after months of mounting tensions between his administration and an increasingly bellicose, nuclear-capable North Korea, led by Kim Jong Un.

On Monday, Choe met with Russian Ambassador to North Korea Alexander Matsegora in Pyongyang as part of the continued discussions. "Over the years we have strictly carried out relevant instructions from above", he said, adding that North Korea is not the only country on the "blacklist".

China, North Korea's main trading partner, has backed successive rounds of United Nations sanctions over North Korean nuclear bomb tests, but has repeatedly said it is opposed to unilateral sanctions and especially "long-arm jurisdiction" over Chinese entities and individuals.

"We resolutely condemn the nuclear missile adventures of Pyongyang in violation of Security Council resolutions, but military hysteria is not just an impasse, it's a disaster", Lavrov argued.
