No. 11 Georgia puts clamps on No. 17 Mississippi St.

Only mascot Bully was spared the onslaught on a night Georgia hardly let up before a revved-up home crowd.

That first play wasn't close to being the only great thing Fromm did to start Georgia's game against Mississippi State.

And all that stand between the Bulldogs and a crack at the Top 10 is a victory over the 11th-ranked Bulldogs of Georgia.

On Saturday night at Sanford Stadium, it was No. 11 Georgia's turn, scoring two second-half touchdowns in rolling to a 31-3 win over the visitors from Starkville, which came in as the nation's No. 17-ranked team. Murray received a slight hint of dissent from the home crowd that was too delirious to hold a grudge against the leading passer in SEC history.

The Bulldogs made the game a nightmare for Mississippi State and quarterback Nick Fitzgerald, considered by many one of the best in the SEC. Fromm found Terry Godwin for a 59-yard touchdown. A week after dominating the LSU defense, Fitzgerald (6'5/230) could get nothing going through the air or on the ground against the impressive Georgia defense. Chubb is a spectacular tailback, of course, rushing for 81 yards and two scores against Mississippi State, but he's not alone. It crosses over every year; but this year, it looks like we're going to end up playing the top two teams in the East, Georgia and Kentucky.

Texas A&M 50, Arkansas 43 • Armani Watts intercepted a pass in overtime to give the Aggies a victory in a wild contest in Arlington, Texas, that was the SEC opener for both teams. I hope I'm wrong and I hope some Georgia fans are booing me come Saturday. It was a tough pill to swallow, but last week Mond finally looked the part of the highly rated recruit he was, tossing for 433 yards and four touchdowns in a win over Louisiana-Lafayette.

None of them more impactful than the Georgia's offense first play from scrimmage.

It was a rough trip back to his home state for Fitzgerald (from Richmond Hill) and another lopsided loss for defensive coordinator Todd Grantham against the team where he served in that position from 2010-13.

A three-and-out on the game's first series for the defense set the tone for Georgia.

"I really don't think there's anybody really clear-cut, head-and-shoulders above in the SEC, probably outside of Alabama", Georgia Coach Kirby Smart said.

By the time Murray was introduced midway through the first quarter along with other former Bulldogs, Georgia was ahead 14-0 and the visiting Bulldogs were spinning their offensive wheels.

Michel didn't play last week against FCS school Samford because of an ankle injury, but that was more of a precautionary measure. Mississippi State is good.

ABOUT MISSISSIPPI STATE (3-0, 1-0 SEC): Fitzgerald, the SEC Offensive Player of the Week, finished with 260 yards of total offense against LSU and a pair of touchdowns passing and rushing. Allen threw for two TDs and David Williams ran for two for the Razorbacks (1-2), who had 457 yards.

Freshman D'Andre Swift chipped with 10 carries for 69 yards for Georgia, which rushed for 203 yards. Alabama (4-0) has won 19 straight over the East.
