Andrew Wiggins gets paid, but is he worth it?

The Timberwolves on Wednesday announced that they have signed the fourth-year forward to a multiyear extension. He's improved in each of his first three seasons in Minnesota, averaging 23.6 points per game previous year. The extension will kick in at the beginning of the 2018-19 season, after Wiggins' rookie contract expires.

Still just 22 years old, the superstar swingman is still improving.

Another note from the Wolves: Wiggins is already sixth on the franchise's all-time scoring list with 4,995 points. "I love it here". The fans and organisation have supported me from my first day here in Minnesota.

Wiggins, the No. 1 pick in the 2014 draft, is as good a young, third option as there is in the National Basketball Association. I want to thank Glen Taylor, Tom Thibodeau, the entire coaching staff and my teammates for believing in me. He scored 40 or more points 5 different times last season.

Wiggins will make more almost double that of Tristan Thompson, whose $16.4 million contract ranks second among Canadian NBA players. At roughly $29.6 million per season, he becomes the team's highest-paid player by over $10 million.
