Former welterweight champ Robbie Lawler and former lightweight titleholder Rafael dos Anjos will throw down in a welterweight main event at UFC Fight Night: Lawler vs. dos Anjos on December 16 at Bell MTS Place, the UFC announced on Thursday. Standing in his way is another former world champion looking to cement his own place at the top of the division. The event will take place on December 16 at Bell MTS Place in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.
A meeting of ex-champs is now the headliner for UFC on FOX 26. Now 2-0 at welterweight, Dos Anjos, like Lawler, stands out as one of the division's premier contenders.
Lawler has fought in some of the UFC's all-time great wars, including wins over Rory MacDonald and Carlos Condit. Dos Anjos (27-9), a former lightweight champ, is unbeaten since moving up a weight class to 170 pounds earlier this year.
Lawler was last seen in the cage at UFC 214, when he picked up a close decision win over fellow fan favorite Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone. Both Lawler and dos Anjos possess knockout power and is a main event that is as solid as they come as far as Fight Nights go.
Other bouts planned for the night include Glover Teixeira vs. Misha Cirkunov, Antonio Rogerio Nogueira vs. Jared Cannonier and Tim Elliott vs. Justin Scoggins.
With the show headlining on FOX, the victor would have a strong case for a title shot at welterweight champion Tyron Woodley, who is now out of action with a torn labrum. The eighth-ranked Cirkunov, from Toronto, has won eight of his last nine fights.
