Arjun Tendulkar - the son of legendary India cricketer Sachin Tendulkar - joined the Indian cricket team during their net session ahead of the first New Zealand ODI at the Wankhede Stadium on Friday.Virat Kohli and his troops lock horns against the Kiwis at this historic ground on Sunday and the players were seen sweating it out in the nets to gear up for the same.
Team India played against Australia and won 4-1.
Zaheer last played an ODI in August 2012 and Irfan Pathan, Jaydev Unadkat and Barinder Sran are the only left-arm quicks to have represented India in a total of 14 ODIs in the last five years. And they have done exceedingly well in the last series.
"We played them last time so we know what they will bring to the table and what they are capable of as a bowling unit".
Though India are riding a wave of success, their ODI vice-captain Rohit Sharma said the hosts weren't taking any side lightly as each team offered its own challenge.
If Virat Kohli will play in first ODI match against New Zealand the 28-year-old cricketer will become 72 cricketer across the globe and 13th Indian player to achieve the feat. While Ashish Nehra has been around in T20Is, there has been a lack of a genuine left-arm quick in the Indian attack even as Mustafizur Rahman, Mitchell Starc, Junaid Khan, Mohammad Irfan, Mitchell McClenaghan and others have given left-arm pacers prominence in recent times. It is very similar to what it used to be before. For me as vice-captain, there is a responsibility. For us as batters, I think it will be a challenge to face a left-arm seamer. So in that space I am quite happy right now, but the hunger (for runs) will never go, you will take every series as an opportunity and go out and perform the same.
"See, I have no idea about that where he (Rahane) will be batting".
