Amaechi Rejects Wike's Award, Demands Public Apology

The policeman with blood on his face, Sgt. Eteng Ewelu, was hit with an iron by Wosu (Wike's CSO), in the presence of the Rivers State governor.

While condemning the attack, the PDP also called on President Muhammadu Buhari to intervene in the on-going face-off between governor and his predecessor as well as to order the immediate transfer of one Akin Fakorede, the commander of Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS), in Rivers State, who purportedly led the assassination attempt on the governor.

According to Vanguard, Wike said that the attempt was made by soldiers and police officers attached to the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) in the convoy of the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi. One of the two cars conveyed security men assigned to protect the minister in Port Harcourt.

A statement by the governor's media aide, Mr Simeon Nwakaudu, said the ugly incident happened at Nwanja junction, Trans Amadi road when the governor was inspecting ongoing road construction job in the area.

The Peoples Democratic Party has broken its silence on the alleged attempt to assassinate the governor of Rivers state, Nyesom Wike, by security operatives purportedly working on the instructions of the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi.

The statement alleged that the governor's outrider was hit by the Minister's convoy and the policemen in the pilot auto attacked.

The party continued, "the entire world is aware of how unsafe Governor Wike is and how he has killed many APC members to usurp powers in Rivers State and how he has supervised and turned Rivers State into Rivers of blood but to attempt to assassinate a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in the mode of Amaechi, his benefactor and predecessor is to us is an affront not only on our nascent democracy but an attempt to truncate our hard earned democracy and to plunge this country into a chaotic situation which consequences may be unimaginable". Rotimi Amaechi on the Governor of Rivers State, Chief Nyesom Wike yesterday being Saturday, November 11, 2017 in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The transport minister has however turned down Wike's award and urged the governor to publicly apologise to him for accusing him of being the owner of the sum of $43 million recently discovered in an Ikoyi apartment by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC or face the wrath of the law.

IYM, through its President-General, Azubuike Nwanjoku, a member of the Rivers State House of Assembly, representing Ikwerre constituency, in an online statement by the group's National Publicity Secretary, Dike Bekwele, declared that Wike's action was suicidal and detrimental to the already-charged environment being witnessed in the state and insecurity in Rivers in recent times.

Tonye Princewill went further to ask, "why did an attempt by Amaechi who was behind the steering to navigate his vehicle out of danger was accosted by two security men from the Governor's convoy who had pulled out their pistol and gun to shoot him".

It added that the minister eventually passed through after the intervention of the security team on ground to protect him in Port Harcourt. They hit the vehicle, tried to smash the windscreens, back and side windows and broke a side mirror. "While the attack occurred, Wike remained inside his vehicle". "Suddenly, gun-toting security men attached to Wike's convoy, surrounded the minister's auto, threatening to shoot him". "The Policeman's riffle was also taken from him".
