Chennai engineer dies after alleged stalker sets her, family on fire

A 22-year-old woman - a techie - died on Tuesday morning after a spurned lover set her ablaze in her home at Adambakkam in Chennai on Monday night.

Induja's mother Renuka and younger sister Nivedita also suffered burn injures while trying to save her.

The accused, Akash, allegedly poured kerosene on Sinduja and set her ablaze at her residence in Saraswathi Street on Monday night.

However, when he proposed his love for her, she rejected it. And she quitted the job last month as Ashok was continuously stalking her. Induja's uncle said that Ashok was stalking Induja since her father went overseas for some work. According to police the detained was pursuing the deceased, Induja, to accept his friendship for almost a month. When she opened the door and stepped out, Akash splashed petrol at her and set her on fire.

The suspect, 23-year-old Akash, a science graduate, who was pursuing Induja against her wishes was arrested following the incident. However, it was said to be a completely one-sided affair as Indhuja had never shown interest in him beyond friendship. Her mother suffered 49 per cent burs and her sister is in the ICU. He forced the girl and her family members to open the door by threatening them of committing suicide by setting himself on fire.

On hearing their screams, the neighbours rushed to the victim's house.

A neighbour said the ambulance arrived too late, at least 40 minutes after a call was made.

Induja, the victim was an engineering student.

Induja's father is working in the Canada.

Induja died before reaching the hospital.
