Ola, the Indian rival of Uber, had recently launched a pilot for electric cars in the Nagpur and is planning a large-scale roll-out by next year. As the pioneer of EVs in the country, we would like to be in the forefront, leading the charge toward smart and sustainable mobility.

The company states that the driver partners on the Uber app can avail a package which that will consist of Mahindra electric vehicles at competitive prices, attractive financing and insurance premiums as well as comprehensive maintenance packages from Mahindra and its associates.

In 2016-17 electric auto sales in India stood at 2,000 units, accounting for a meager 0.07 percent of total passenger vehicle sales (3,046,727 units).

The companies will deploy hundreds of EVs in New Delhi and Hyderabad to begin with, the automobile major said in a filing to the BSE. However, the situation is expected to change post the execution of 10000 vehicle orders from government owned EESL (Energy Efficiency Services Ltd).

Mahindra will further aid driver education and training related to various aspects of electric vehicles, and plans to increase the production to 5,000 vehicles per month by the end of 2019.

As per a report released by Centre's think tank Niti Aayog the accelerated adoption of electric and shared vehicles could save about $ 60 billion in diesel and petrol costs while cutting down as much as 1 gigatonne (GT) of carbon emissions for India by 2030.

Mahindra has plans of ramping up capacity to 5000 units a month of EV production from 500 units now.
