New outbreak of Ebola declared in Democratic Republic of Congo

Ebola first appeared in 1976 in two simultaneous outbreaks, in Sudan and in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The affected region is about 1,300 kilometers (808 miles) from the Country's capital, Kinshasa. This means that outbreaks there kill people, but fizzle out without spreading very far geographically. "As this is the eighth epidemic [of Ebola] that we are facing as a nation, we should not be rattled", the health minister said.
