U.S. Representative Steve Scalise , shot at a congressional baseball practice last month, underwent surgery on Thursday to treat an infection, a hospital statement said. However, he was readmitted on July 5 in serious condition because of concerns about infection. He sustained a single gunshot wound to his left hip and suffered significant damage to his internal organs.
